Infrared Asphalt Repair
- What is an infrared repair?
Infrared asphalt repair is somewhat of a newer technology in the asphalt maintenance industry. Instead of cutting out the area that needs to be repaired, we use an infrared heater that will heat up the damaged area, making the asphalt workable again. Some of the old materials will be removed and some new material plus rejuvenator will be added. The materials will be raked and compacted to complete the repair.
- What are the benefits over traditional methods?
There are a few! The biggest is that the asphalt surface will not get cut into with a saw, infrared leaves a seamless (cut-less) repair. Since there is no cutting, there is no new seem for water to get down into afterwards. Also, we don't need to remove and replace as much material. This makes infrared the most efficient method of repair as well. Less labour, less heavy equipment needed, less raw material, all means less expense to you the customer!
One of the most exciting benefits is that we can provide hot mix asphalt repairs all year long. Usually, most companies that only offer cut and patch style repairs have to use a 'cold patch' material in the winter because the asphalt plants are shut down. The cold patch material is very temporary and that pot hole will be back within months. Due to the infrared heating element, we can provide proper hot mix asphalt repairs any season by heating up our own hot mix asphalt right inside the pothole. If you want pothole repair done right in the cold season, this is your best, longest lasting option by far!
